The Bible itself claims to be inspired by God. Though it is recognized that men participated in it's writing, the writers of the Bible were moved by the Holy Spirit in such a way that the Bible is not simply the words of men, but is uniquely the Word of God.
The church is commended when it recognizes God's Word, but the church is not the source of the Bible's authority, the Bible is the source of the church's authority. The Westminster Confession of Faith attests to this truth: "The authority of the Holy Scripture, for which it ought to be believed, and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man, or Church; but wholly upon God (who is truth itself) the author thereof: and therefore it is to be received, because it is the word of God."
Westminster Confession of Faith CHAP. I:4
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
II Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)
